Towards yourself, first of all, as well as towards your children,
your coworkers, your own family.
To get from hoping to trusting, from little to big, from the first steps to independence,
from childlike wonder to knowledge in the fields of Montessori pedagogy,
NTC and forest pedagogy.
Such is the vision of the Modra Pikica kindergarten, and we are writing it together with you.

Our kindergarten's advantages

WE CARRY OUT THE MONTESSORI PROGRAMME FOR THE CHILD'S OPTIMAL DEVELOPMENT

We are a private kindergarten that works according to the Montessori method of education.
More than a hundred years ago, Dr Maria Montessori used her insightful observation, combined with her professional knowledge and sparkling mind, to come to conclusions that have been confirmed in recent years by latest research in the field of child development.

A LOT OF SPACE FOR THE CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT

All our rooms are larger than prescribed by the norms, which supports the children's well-being, makes the environment to be more organised and allows children to freely move around. There is a room where children can work with materials from everyday life all day long. The children spend a lot of time there working with water, practicing fine motor skills, taking care of small animals etc.
There is a separate multi-purpose room where we carry out various morning and afternoon activities (music lessons in accordance with Edgar Willems's method, NTC activities, dance lessons etc).

A TEAM OF KIND AND EXPERT TEACHERS

Parents and visitors often wonder how we've found such dedicated and professional people. Our teachers are noted for their knowledge, warmth and energy, which they also pass on to the children. Our kindergarten offers a larger number of educators than prescribed: in each group there are three assistants (one qualified Montessori teacher plus two assistants who have completed the basic Montessori education), resulting in better quality work.

WE PROVIDE A BILINGUAL ENVIRONMENT

In each group there is an English-speaking assistant. Since the children are exposed to the language every morning, language learning occurs in a natural way. After a few weeks they start to understand everyday English phrases; within a few years they become fluent speakers.

WE SPEND TIME OUTSIDE EVERY DAY

FOREST PEDAGOGY

Every other Friday, we go to the forest. Children have a natural need to move, and this way they can do that in nature. By observing children, it is clear that intelligence develops through movement, since the two are deeply connected.

TWO GROUPS OF CHILDREN

There are two groups of children: one for ages 1 to 3 and another for ages 3 to 6. The two groups are close-knit, which is very important for the children's social development as well.

WE PARTICIPATE IN EU PROJECTS

We are involved in EU projects, such as the Erasmus+ project "NTC for ALL", through which we develop materials according to Dr Ranko Rajović's NTC system.

WE ENSURE REGULAR AND QUALITY COOPERATION WITH PARENTS

We provide various forms of cooperation, as we wish to build a partnership that leads to greater progress for each child. We offer conversation meetings, parent-teacher meetings, lectures, various workshops, annual picnics and bazaars. The parents can reach all assistants as well as the principal by email as well.

WE COLLABORATE WITH DR RANKO RAJOVIĆ

Our kindergarten has had an NTC centre (in accordance with Dr Ranko Rajović's NTC system) since 2017, aimed at children aged 4 to 6. Some elements of the NTC programme are included in our work; more on this can be found in the separate tab about NTC.

WE PROVIDE INTERNSHIPS FOR ERASMUS+ STUDENTS

WE DIVERSIFY THE EVERYDAY PROGRAMME WITH OTHER ACTIVITIES

We organise swimming courses twice a year and a skiing course every winter. We also take the children to see plays, visit various institutions, visits to the library etc.

WE EMPHASISE THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY FIRST LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

The director of the kindergarten, Živa Ribičič, is an expert in early language development, so she passes on her knowledge to the professional team, observes the children and points out any deviations that may be present. Moreover, we also have knowledge in the field of sign communication for babies and toddlers.
